Verizon Droids get large fix over the air
Motorola Droid owners today began seeing a system update pushed over-the-air to their phones.
The Android 2.0.1 update crucially fixes the slow autofocus issue but also improves a wide range of elements, including battery life, audio quality both on as well as off wired networks and a new more instant delivery of Visual Voice Mail messages. Overall stability, speed and a new unlock screen may also be part of the upgrade based on first-hand reports.
The fix comes ahead of an originally anticipated December 11th rollout but should push to many if not all Droid users over the space of about 48 hours. Users can try to force the update early through the About Phone section of the settings when the menu item is available.
Downloading and Installing
This system software update is being sent to the Droid over the air. At present, it’s not possible for users to manually download it.
Droid owners will be notified when the update has arrived on their device, and will then be walked through the installation process.
This will not erase any information stored on the phone.
A larger 2.1 update with more significant updates isn’t likely to arrive until January.
