Android Antivirus app update on 12/31/09 causes Droid to reboot

If you are experiencing multiple reboots on your Android phone the problem might be coming from the Antivirus app. 

 

Just shortly after midnight on New Year Eve I started experiencing rebooting on my Droid every few minutes.  I started to wonder if it had something to do with the New Year.  I went to bed and woke up to a dead phone.  I was hanging out a friends and had my charger in the car.  I headed home with the phone on the charger.  The same thing was happening so I was eager to get home and get online.

 

I found out that others were having the same problem after installing the upgrade for Antivirus.  There is another upgrade available as of today but at this point I’m not willing to get it a try.  I took the application off my phone and the problem was gone.

 

It’s not a bad app but after last night I’m not willing to deal with random reboots of my phone.  I might change my mind later and try it again.  But for now I’m going to trust that Android can defend itself from a virus better than Windows can.

    I don't have that app and mine started to reboot when trying to turn it off. This problem started around 10 pm Mountain time on 12/31/10, although it may have done the same thing had I tried to turn the phone off earlier. I attempted to shut the phone off and a few seconds after succeeding, it would restart on its own. The problem had gone away by the morning of January 1.
    I don't have the antivirus app installed. Just FYI . . .

    i had the same exact problem. i unistalled the program and now my phone works fine. in addition to the reboots and massive power drains, my phone ran much slower than usual.

    My phone was getting slow and battery life was shortened significantly. After checking the battery usage, the antivirus app was using 23% of my battery. I uninstalled the antivirus app and the problem went away.

    ya, i had the same issue. my phone was locking up, the keyboard was slow, the phone it self would take forever to connect calls, then try to merge calls when i tried to tap the button again.

    thanks a lot, just uninstalled the app and everything is back to normal. saved me a trip to the verizon shop :)

    Thanks so much! I installed the update day before yesterday, and the problem started. Don't know why, but I never would have thought to remove AntiVirus. I had been recently having a lot of lag issues (built-in storage was rather full), so I had been uninstalling a bunch of apps yesterday and the day before. I figured that maybe I uninstalled the wrong app, or something…
    I was having the same issues, power drain, lag, constant reboots (even while plugged in to multiple adapters, etc.). Tried doing a power-cycle/battery reseat; no change. As soon as I uninstalled AntiVirus, and power-cycled the phone, no more issues! This saved me a trip to the Sprint store (and likely an insurance deductible).
